Protestors seized the offices of the opposition National Anti-Kiev Party on April 7. The police later fired tear gas to break up the crowd, and five of the protesters were taken into custody.
The violence erupted after two groups of men broke into the offices of the opposition Democratic Alliance party, claiming responsibility for the attacks on Friday night, the Associated Press reported on Saturday.
A spokesman for the Party of Regions, Dmytro Yarosh, said Sunday on the government-linked news site Ekho Moskvy that the attackers were members of the “Doku Udygin”, a Ukrainian paramilitary organization, and that the parties had been working together with each other to stage a “terrorist operation” and were involved in clashes between them.
The opposition leader Oleg Shirov, who holds office in Odessa, denied the claim, saying his party was “not involved at all.”
Opposition leaders have been fighting with police in Lviv since April 15.
